Anthropic API key (BYOK): run Claude on your own account

With BYOK (bring your own key), Claude runs on your own Anthropic account. From the moment you connect the key, every Claude call made by agents and AI nodes in your organization uses it.

What it does in OrqLabs

By default OrqLabs runs on the platform's AI keys, and that usage counts against your plan's monthly AI budget. Once you connect your Anthropic Claude API key, every Claude call in the organization (Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, Haiku 4.5 and the other Claude models in the catalog) is billed to your Anthropic account. Running workflows don't need a restart.

What changes in billing? OrqLabs adds no markup to calls made with your key; it still meters each call at catalog prices and shows it separately as “own key” in usage. That spend doesn't count toward your plan's monthly AI budget, while the per-run budgets you set on agents and workflows still apply.

What stays the same? The model tiers your plan unlocks don't change, so BYOK doesn't open flagship models on lower plans, and monthly run quotas still apply. Knowledge base embeddings and image generation always run on OpenAI; an Anthropic key doesn't cover them.

What you can automate

  • Your own limits and invoice

Rate and spend limits follow your Anthropic account's usage tier, and you see OrqLabs spend directly in the Anthropic Console usage views.

  • Separate costs with a workspace

Create a dedicated workspace for OrqLabs in the Console and generate the key there; OrqLabs spend is tracked apart from your other projects and you can cap that workspace's spend.

  • Per-agent model choice

Analytics Strategist, Market Analyst, SEO & Traffic Growth and Campaign Planner default to Claude Opus 5; content, chat and lead agents use Claude Sonnet 5; the Social Publisher uses Claude Haiku 4.5. You can pick another Claude model per node, per workflow or for the whole organization.

  • Claude Fable 5.1

Claude Fable 5.1, the most capable model in the catalog, is available once 30-day data retention is enabled on your Anthropic account and your plan includes the flagship tier.

Nodes that use this integration

Every agent and AI node can run on this key.

In the workflow editor these nodes run with your Anthropic API key (BYOK) account.

  • Generate text

Has the AI write text from your instructions in a single step, e.g. a short reply draft for every new comment.

  • Extract structured data

Turns free text into tidy fields such as name, phone and budget, e.g. turning a WhatsApp booking request into a record.

  • Classify

Sorts each text into one of your categories and sends it down that path, e.g. splitting incoming messages into sales, support and spam.

  • Translate

Translates the text fields you choose into another language, keeping your brand tone, e.g. an English version of a post for LinkedIn.

Setup at a glance

  1. Add credits at console.anthropic.com and, if you like, create a separate workspace for OrqLabs.

  2. Create and copy a key under Settings → API Keys → Create Key; it's shown only once.

  3. In OrqLabs, open Integrations → Anthropic API key (BYOK) → Connect; the connection is organization-wide, so no project is selected.

  4. Enter the key in API key and, if needed, the wrkspc_… value in Workspace ID, then click Connect.

  5. Check the key with Test connection, then pick your default model under Settings → Models & pricing.

Requirements

  • A plan that includes BYOK (Starter and up); it's disabled on the FREE plan.
  • An Anthropic Console account with a payment method or prepaid credits.
  • An API key created in the Console (sk-ant-…), plus the Workspace ID if the key isn't scoped to a workspace.
  • Owner or Admin role in OrqLabs.

What you enter when connecting

  • API key *
  • Workspace ID (optional)

Good to know

  • BYOK doesn't widen plan tiers: with default plan settings, Starter gets economy and balanced models, while flagship models such as Opus 5 and Fable 5.1 need Pro or higher.
  • Knowledge base embeddings and image generation run on OpenAI and need the platform's or your own OpenAI key.
  • If your Anthropic credits run out or the key is revoked, Claude calls fail; turning on auto-reload in the Console is recommended.
  • OrqLabs calculates cost at catalog prices, so small differences from your Anthropic invoice (for example from caching discounts) are normal.

Frequently asked questions

Is using my own key cheaper?

Calls made with your key are billed at Anthropic's list price and OrqLabs adds no markup. Your plan subscription, model tiers and run quotas stay the same.

Does spend on my own key count toward my monthly budget?

No. The plan's monthly AI budget only counts spend on platform keys. Per-run budgets on agents and workflows still apply with your own key.

Where is my data processed?

Requests are processed with your key on your Anthropic account, so your data processing terms are directly between you and Anthropic.

Do I need to fill in the Workspace ID?

Not if you created the key inside a workspace. The field is only needed for keys that aren't scoped to a workspace.

What happens if I remove the key?

If you delete the integration, the organization goes back to the platform's keys and usage counts against your plan's monthly AI budget again.
