AI competitor analysis agent: messaging, content, pricing and gaps
Competitor Analyst works out from public sources what your competitors promise, who they target, how often and in which formats they post and how they price, then compares it with your position and writes prioritized recommendations.

What the agent does
The competitor analysis agent looks at the aspects you choose for each competitor. Messaging: value proposition, target customer, proof points and tone from the homepage and about page. Content: posting cadence, formats and themes from their blog and social pages. Pricing: plans, price points, free tier and discounts from the pricing page, noting when pricing isn't public. SEO: where they show up for brand and category searches. Ads: offers, hooks and landing pages from ad traces visible in web search.
Competitors' social metrics aren't available through APIs, so the agent draws qualitative conclusions from public pages and says so. With your own accounts connected, it reads your last 28 days of performance to compare cadence and engagement against real data. Giving a website instead of a name prevents the wrong company from being analyzed.
The result is a report with each competitor's positioning, strengths and weaknesses, a comparison table, gaps nobody covers well (with evidence and the opportunity) and prioritized recommendations. In a workflow you can pass the gaps to Content Creator as topics or to Analytics Strategist as experiment ideas.
Inputs / Outputs
Inputs
- Competitors (name or website)required
- One competitor per line: a brand name or, better, a website such as
https://www.competitor.com. 3–5 competitors is ideal; each extra one makes the report longer and the run more expensive. - Aspects to review
- Messaging, content, pricing, SEO and ads. The default trio (messaging, content, pricing) is enough for most businesses; each extra aspect lengthens the report and adds cost.
Outputs
- competitors
- Competitor profiles: website, positioning in a sentence or two, strengths and weaknesses, observed posting cadence and platforms, top formats, pricing with its source (or “not public”), plus SEO and ads notes when selected.
- gaps
- Gaps: areas nobody covers well that your audience wants, each with the evidence and the opportunity for you.
- recommendations
- Prioritized recommendations (high, medium, low): messaging angles, formats, offers and keywords, each with a rationale.

Example tasks
- “Compare the menu prices and promotions of 3 competing cafés in our neighborhood; show in a table where our breakfast plate sits on price.”
- “Find out how often and in which formats competing dental clinics post on Instagram; suggest 3 content types we are missing.”
- “Find the 3 main promises in competing cosmetics brands' ads and write counter-messages that set us apart.”
- “For SEO, list 10 searches our competitors target that have no matching page on our site.”
Tips for good results
- Give websites rather than names so the agent doesn't confuse a competitor with a similarly named company.
- Pick 3–5 competitors and 2–3 aspects; 5 competitors × 5 aspects makes for a long, expensive run.
- Say how you want the result: “Put prices in a table and compare them with our offer.”
- Write your own positioning into the strategy document; comparisons and gaps are judged against it.
- A saved agent remembers the pages it reviewed and pricing snapshots, so you can ask it to “highlight what changed since the last analysis”.
Model advice

Per 1M tokens: $2 input · $10 output
Economy model

Per 1M tokens: $1 input · $5 output
The default balanced model is enough to read several competitors' pages and produce a consistent comparison and gap list. For quick checks of 2–3 competitors on a single aspect, such as pricing only, the economy model lowers the cost. For a broad positioning study across many competitors and all aspects, moving up to a flagship model can improve the synthesis.
Frequently asked questions
Can it see my competitors' follower and engagement numbers?
Not exact numbers; platform APIs don't provide that data for other accounts. The agent draws approximate, qualitative conclusions from public pages and says so.
Which accounts should I connect?
Serper or Tavily is recommended for web search; without one only the URLs you provide are read. With your own social accounts connected, the comparison includes your real data.
Does it change anything on competitor websites?
No. It only reads pages; it never fills in forms or takes any action.
How many competitors should I add?
3–5 is ideal. More makes the report longer and the run more expensive.
